While Bollywood actor Dharmendra and business tycoon Sajjan Jindal along with an Indian Premiere League team owner have added their names in the list of celebrities who are buying teams in the Pro Wrestling League, there is another active cricketer who has shown interest in doing the same. Talks are on between both the parties and an official announcement about the star cricketer buying one of the teams is expected anytime soon.
Cricket legends like Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly already own Indian soccer teams; however, it is interesting to see the present stars of the cricketing world investing their interest in sports other than cricket.
The two prominent Captains of the Indian Cricket Team, ODI Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Test Captain Virat Kohli are among the top stars who already co-own Ranchi Hockey franchise and Roger Federer’s team in ITPL respectively. Another member of their team is now expected to add his name to the list.
The Pro Wrestling League that is scheduled for November has some prominent names attached to it. On the one hand where Sajjan Jindal-owned JSW Sports will boast about its Bengaluru team, Delhi based real-estate firm CDR on the other hand has teamed up with actor Dharmendra and his star sons, Bobby and Sunny Deol to own the Punjab team.
Several other companies are in talks with the wrestling brand to buy the teams in its newest league. Apart from the present Indian cricketer, talks are also on with a Mumbai based real-estate firm and an IPL team owner for three other teams.
The first edition of the event that is scheduled between November 8–29, will see participation from six teams where each of them would have 11 wrestlers in it (five females and six males). Approximately 20 top wrestlers across the globe including several Olympic medalists have been signed up for the upcoming league.
Pro Wrestling League has been introduced by ProSportify, a joint venture between Kartikeya Sharma Founder of iTV Network and Ashish Chadha of sports management firm Sporty Solutionz that has also signed a 10-year deal with the Wrestling Federation of India for the event.
